Minnehaha Falls is a Minneapolis gem. In any season, the waterfall is best photographed in the morning just after sunrise when the easterly sun illuminates the face of the water. Another perk of getting there early is the large crowds that often gather in the park are not around.
It was a balmy 5°F when I picked up my good pal Dan for some Sunday photography fun. When we arrived at Minnehaha Falls, a bright January sun lit up clear blue skies and we had the frozen falls to ourselves. A very slick and rather sketchy hike later and we were behind the beautiful waterfall.
Within the next hour the colors blasting through the ice changed with the intensity of the sun as it rose. It was quiet and peaceful, and a glorious winter morning in Minneapolis.
