If you are in Yoho National Park, Emerald Lake is a must-see. But don’t expect solitude, as the bright green iridescent waters of the lake attract visitors from all over the world, and rightfully so. Emerald Lake is simply stunning.
Emerald Lake can be reached via a six mile one way hike from Takakkaw Falls parking lot through Yoho Pass, or by car with a ten minute drive from Field, B.C. Although there is no backcountry camping near the lake, there are several hotel resorts, a few good restaurants, and canoe and kayak rentals. Since we were on a rest day, we drove and enjoyed some hiking, and then an ale with an incredible view on the Emerald Lake Lodge patio.
Upon arriving to the parking lot, I realized I had made a huge mistake however…I left my tripod in my other backpack at camp! Making the most of the late afternoon light, I did my best shooting handheld. The frustrations of my mistake didn’t last long as the beauty of Emerald Lake immediately took over. With its bright green water, gorgeous surrounding mountains, and nice trails, Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park is definitely worth a stop. Just don’t forget your tripod in the tent if you go!
